Parish Notes September, 26, 2021
Fr. Pat has now left us to return to his mission in New Mexico.
Our prayers and good wishes go with him that he and his priestly work will be blessed by the Lord.
We extend a very warm welcome to Hugh , son of Gilbert and Sophie Stevenson, who was baptised last weekend in the Church of the Holy Family. Congratulations. Well done !
Monday : Memorial of St. Vincent de Paul who died in 1660. Patron of poor people. Founded the Vincentians to bring the Gospel to people in the county-side; also the Sisters of Charity, the first Sisters to work outside their convents among the people, especially the poor.
Wednesday : The Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. Michael ,Prince of the Heavenly Host, is venerated as the protector of the Church and of soldiers; Gabriel brought the message to Our Lady at the Annunciation, and Raphael, guide to Tobias, is venerated as the patron of sick people.
Thursday : Memorial of St. Jerome . Secretary to Pope Damasus and was given the task of translating the Bible into Latin called the Vulgate, or common language –to this day the official version of the Bible in the Western Church ; then he set up an establishment in Bethlehem where he wrote commentaries on Sacred Scripture. Patron of Scripture scholars, he died in 420
Friday : Memorial of St Therese of the Child Jesus. Virgin and Doctor of the Church . Her relics were welcomed to Scotland a few years ago with great enthusiasm. It is not well known that the vehicle carrying them parked in the grounds of Our Lady’s, Auchterarder, for a few hours on the way to Dundee. She preached a gospel of simple faith and trust in God, allowing His love to wash away our imperfections . She died in Normandy in 1897 aged 24 and was canonised in 1925.
Saturday : Memorial of Our Holy Guardian Angels
